Good Afternoon Unity Family:

I hope you had a safe weekend with your families. As you already know, the Unity Board of Directors has authorized us to dismiss students from school from Monday, March 16, through Friday, March 27. Please note that this is a minimum and there could be additional days of closure.

Front Office Hours

  • The physical front office will be closed but the front office will be working remotely and are readily available by phone on Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4 pm.

Student Learning Experience Over the Next Two Weeks

  • During the next two weeks, Unity students have the opportunity to revise, improve, and resubmit any past assignments they did not receive full credit on. This will ensure students can build on their previous knowledge rather than try to learn new content on their own.
  • Teachers will reach out to your students today through Google Classroom.
  • Family teachers will also communicate and check in on your students each week.
  • If you have questions as it relates to your child accessing learning please reach out directly to Ms. Seth by email at rseth@unitymchs.org or  by telephone at 313-509-8689

Students With Disabilities

  • Due to the school closure and no new instruction being provided, Unity is not currently providing special education services through these dates. However, we want to provide access to the same learning experiences as above for our students with disabilities.
  • If your student needs support getting access to these additional educational opportunities, please contact Mr. Casperson at ccasperson@unitymchs.org

How to Get Help from Teachers

  • Teachers will be available online/remotely each day during regular school hours for students to get the help and support they need. This help will be offered through various modalities: teleconferencing, video conferencing, and email.

Students Taking College at SCC

  • Classes at SCC have been canceled Monday, March 16th and Tuesday, March 17th.
  • Starting Wednesday, March 18th all classes (except for labs) will be delivered through online instruction.
  • Students should check their emails and Canvas for further information from SCC and individual professors.
  • Students who need support with wifi should contact Ms. Seth.

Student Meals Each School Day

    • Throughout the closure on school days each week, Unity students can go to the Orange United Schools listed below for:
      • Grab-N-Go Breakfast from 8 am to 10 am &
      • Grab-N-Go Lunch 10 am to noon
    • Locations serving food are:
      • Handy, California, Esplanade, Taft, Yorba, & Lampson Elementary Schools
      • Portola Middle School
      • Orange HS, El Modena HS, & Canyon HS. (served out of snack bars, not in the cafeteria or multipurpose rooms, to prevent students gathering)
  • Students are not allowed to stay on campus or congregate to consume meals and must be present to pick up food

Unity will continue to communicate with local agencies (OCDE and OC Health) during this time and provide updated information on school closure through Parent Square, social media, and parent phone calls. We understand that closing our school may create hardship for families, but it is imperative we uphold guidelines set forth by public health officials to keep our families safe.

Please call us at 714-473-0723 with your questions. We will send another update to you later this week.
